Server type

Which server type should you pick?

The type decides what your server can load — plugins, mods, or nothing — and it cannot be changed without rebuilding. This is the one choice worth a minute of thought.

TypeInstalls intoStarts atBest for
FabricBest/mods1 GBSmall servers on 1–2 GB, and anyone who wants mods. The optimization mods it can run are worth roughly 40–50% of the memory on their own, which is the difference between comfortable and tight on a free plan.
Paper/plugins2 GBEstablished SMPs and anything that needs plugins — ranks, shops, land claims, minigames. Paper cannot run the optimization mods, and the smallest sizes are measured with those, so it starts at 2 GB — a paid plan.
Quilt/mods1 GBPeople already using Quilt-only mods. It runs the Fabric catalogue too, but stops at 1.21.11 — there are no Quilt mappings for the 2026 releases.
Forge/mods1 GBLarge tech and adventure modpacks that only ship for Forge. Heavy — plan for 4 GB or more, and note it stops before the 2026 releases.
NeoForge/mods1 GBNew Forge-style mods, which mostly moved here after 1.20.2. Nothing older than 1.20.2 exists for it.
Vanillanothing2 GBPlaying the game exactly as Mojang ships it. Nothing installs into it, so everything runs through settings and commands.

Two of these start above the free size. Paper and Vanilla cannot load the optimization mods, and the smallest plans are measured with those mods installed — so selling them at 1 GB would be selling a promise nothing keeps.

Minecraft version

Which Minecraft version can you run?

Every release from 1.16 onward, grouped by line. Whoever joins needs the same version, so pick the one your friends are already on.

Not every type builds every version: Quilt stops at 1.21.11, Forge and NeoForge stop before the 2026 releases, and NeoForge starts at 1.20.2. The picker only ever offers you combinations that build.

World type

What the world types actually do

Your world type and seed are written into the world the first time it generates and are then read-only forever — a fresh world is the only way to change them.

Normal
Standard terrain — the world Minecraft generates by default.
minecraft:normal
Large Biomes
The same terrain, with every biome stretched about four times wider.
minecraft:large_biomes
Amplified
Extreme mountains and overhangs. Heavier to generate — give it more memory.
minecraft:amplified
Superflat
A single flat layer of land. Great for building and minigames.
minecraft:flat
Single Biome
One biome, everywhere, forever.

Memory

How much memory do you need?

Memory is what sets your player capacity and view distance, and it is the only thing the plans really differ on. Most groups of friends never outgrow the free tier.

MemoryPlayersView distancePlan
1 GBup to 44 chunksFree — sleeps when empty
2 GBup to 126 chunksStarter — always on
4 GBup to 1610 chunksPro — always on
8 GBup to 2010 chunksUltimate — always on

Modded servers and big modpacks use noticeably more than vanilla — if you are running Forge or a large pack, plan for 4 GB or more.

Still deciding

Questions about creating a server.

Do I need an account to use this page?

No. Configure the whole server here first. You only sign in at the very end, and we carry every choice you made into your dashboard so nothing has to be entered twice.

Is the server really free?

Yes. The free plan is free forever and never asks for a card. Your server sleeps after about five minutes with nobody on it, and one click wakes it in roughly 30 seconds — your world, settings and backups are untouched.

How long does it take to be online?

A minute or two from the moment you confirm. You get an address like survival.kubik.gg that you and your friends paste straight into Minecraft.

Do I have to deal with an IP address or port forwarding?

Never. Every server gets its own hostname. There is no IP to memorise, no port to forward, and nothing to change on your router.

Can I change my mind after the server is created?

Game mode, difficulty, player limit, MOTD and whitelist are all editable from the dashboard whenever you like. The seed, world type and structure setting are baked into the world when it first generates, so those need a new world.

Can I add plugins or mods later?

Yes, one click each, straight from Modrinth in your dashboard — matched to your version so they just work. What you can install depends on the server type you pick above: Paper takes plugins, Fabric and Forge take mods, Vanilla takes neither.

What happens if I pick a paid package?

The same as a free one, right up to the last step: you configure it here, sign in, and check it over in your dashboard. Then you pay for the first month and the server is built as soon as the payment lands. Not ready to pay? Build it on the free plan and move up later — same world, same address.

Everything answered? Go build it.

Your configuration is still up there, exactly as you left it.
